A star-studded crowd will honor Tony-winning director Walter Bobbie at Classic Stage Company’s annual benefit gala. The event is set for May 21 at Bridgewaters at South Street Seaport. Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth, an original star of Bobbie’s Chicago revival, is among those scheduled to appear, as are current Venus in Fur headliners Hugh Dancy and Nina Arianda.
Also scheduled to appear during the evening are Jenn Gambatese, Norm Lewis, Hamish Linklater and Lorna Luft.
Bobbie won a Tony Award for his direction of the current Broadway revival of Chicago. His other Broadway directing credits include Venus in Fur, High Fidelity, Sweet Charity, Twentieth Century and Footloose. Bobbie has directed three acclaimed productions at CSC in recent seasons: New Jerusalem, the off-Broadway incarnation of Venus In Fur and The School for Lies. As an actor, Bobbie appeared on Broadway in Guys and Dolls, Cafe Crown and Anything Goes.
