Ashley Spencer is set to play Sherrie in the Broadway cast of Rock of Ages, beginning May 10 at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Spencer will succeed Emily Padgett, who will play her final performance on May 1. Rock of Ages cast members Katie Webber and Tessa Alves will alternate the role in the interim week before Spencer’s run begins.
Rock of Ages, set to the sounds of the '80s, is a love story between Drew (Justin Matthew Sargent) and Sherrie (Spencer), who both move to Los Angeles to pursue their dreams, but end up working at the Bourbon Room. Rock of Ages opened on April 7, 2009 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, then transferred to the Helen Hayes Theatre on March 24, 2011. In addition to Sargent, the production currently stars Jeremy Woodard, Genson Blimline and Adam Dannheisser.
Spencer’s Broadway credits include Hairspray and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Spencer was a finalist on the NBC competition series, Grease: You’re The One That I Want, and ultimately earned a spot in the Broadway revival, replacing Laura Osnes as Sandy. Spencer is engaged to Newsies star Jeremy Jordan.
