NBC has ordered a full season of the previously announced TV pilot The New Normal for the 2012-2013 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Co-written by Glee’s Ryan Murphy and Allison Adler, and directed by Murphy, the series stars Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, Tony winner Ellen Barkin, Broadway vet Justin Bartha and newcomer Georgia King.
The single-camera sitcom is billed as "a heartwarming comedy about a blended family of a gay couple (Rannells and Bartha) and the woman (King) who becomes a surrogate to help them start a family."
The NBC series marks the first major television role for Rannells. He received a Tony Award nomination for his work as Elder Price in the blockbuster musical The Book of Mormon. Barkin won a Tony Award for her work in The Normal Heart. Bartha appeared on Broadway in Lend Me a Tenor and off-Broadway in Asuncion and All New People.
