NBC has ordered 1600 Penn, the White House comedy featuring The Book of Mormon's Josh Gad, to series, according to Deadline.com. In addition to starring in the series, Gad will serve as a co-executive producer. Jason Winer directed the pilot episode. No start date for the series has been announced at this time.
1600 Penn follows a dysfunctional First Family in which the out-of-control oldest son (Gad) returns home and becomes not only its biggest liability, but also the glue holding everyone together. Bill Pullman and Jenna Elfman star as Gad's parents, with Benjamin Stocham, Martha MacIsaac and Amara Miller also among the cast.
In addition to 1600 Penn, NBC has also picked up the Ryan Murphy series The New Normal, which features Gad's current The Book of Mormon co-star Andrew Rannells. Gad is also writing another pilot script for NBC in collaboration with Will Ferrell's production company.
