David Auburn’s political drama The Columnist stars 2012 Tony nominee John Lithgow as Joseph Alsop, a king among columnists, beloved, feared and courted in equal measure in the early 1960s. Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson took a seat at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre to capture Lithgow as Alsop along with (from top) Margaret Colin as Susan Mary Alsop, Grace Gummer as Abigail, Stephen Kunken as journalist David Halberstam, Boyd Gaines as Joseph’s brother Stewart and Brian J. Smith as Andrei. Take a look at Squigs' portrayal of Lithgow & Co., then get tickets to see them in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of The Columnist, through July 1.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Click to e-mail Squigs. Photo by Matthew Murphy
