For the past six seasons, Jane Krakowski has delighted TV audiences as Jenna Maroney in 30 Rock, but the Tony-winning actress also keeps her musical skills sharp in cabaret and concerts around the country. Now Krakowski is prepping for her most elaborate show yet, Live at the Town Hall, on June 8. During a visit to Broadway.com’s studios for an appearance on the May 31 episode of Show People With Paul Wontorek, the charming actress offered a preview of what she promises will be an evening of “sexy song and dance.”
“Town Hall is one of those big, landmark theaters, so we’re opening up the show with more of a band, dancing boys, costume changes and two acts,” Krakowski said with a smile. It’s going to be more of a blowout than our regular show.” In addition to welcoming her Damn Yankees co-star Cheyenne Jackson to the stage for a duet, Krakowski will perform numbers honoring “women I’ve admired over the years” such as Eartha Kitt (“An Englishman Takes His Time”) and Ann-Margret (“13 Men”), as well as her original version of “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.”
Krakowski’s original inspiration for her saucy show came when she happened to see one of Mitzi Gaynor’s 1960s television specials. “I was blown away by the Bob Mackie gowns, the dancing boys, the level of the production numbers,” she recalls. “I also watched Eartha Kitt and Ann-Margret’s specials, and I was riveted—I love the big numbers and sexy song and dance that people don’t do anymore.”
As Krakowski describes the hip and sassy vibe she’ll bring audiences in “Live at the Town Hall,” she sounds like a card-carrying member of the Rat Pack. “I would have loved that!” she says with a laugh. “I think I missed by time just a little bit, certainly with those sorts of shows and specials. We’re going to have fun at Town Hall. It will definitely be a special one-night-only show.”
