Broadway alums Teal Wicks (Wicked) and James Snyder (Cry-Baby) will star as Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow, respectively, in Carousel at Goodspeed Opera House in in East Haddam, Connecticut. Directed by Rob Ruggiero, the production will also star Jenn Gambatese (Tarzan) as Carrie Pipperidge and Jeff Kready (Billy Elliot) as Mr. Snow. Carousel will play from July 13 through September 23.
Set on the coast of Maine, Carousel is the story of Billy Bigelow, a carousel barker who strikes up a romance with Julie Jordan, a millworker, but the relationship threatens both of their jobs. Carousel features music by Richard Rogers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical originally opened on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre on April 19, 1945, playing 890 total performances before closing on May 24, 1947.
In addition to Wicks, Snyder, Gambatese and Kready, Carousel features Ronn Carroll as Starkeeper, Deanne Lourette as Mrs. Mullin, Anne Kanengeiser as Nettie Fowler and Tally Sessions as Jigger. The ensemble includes Jessica Bishop, Beth Crandall, Belle Doraz, Jennifer Evans, Eloise Kropp, Edward Lawrence, Leisa Mather, Jonathan Rayson, Sam Rodgers, Michael Scirrotto, Jet Thomason, Travis Waldschmidt, Aaron Young. Swings include Maria Briggs and Andrew Scott Holmes, with additional casting to be announced shortly.
The Carousel design team includes scenic design by Michael Schweikardt, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by John Lasiter and sound design by Jay Hilton.
