Jon Robin Baitz's Tony-nominated play Other Desert Cities will end its run June 17 at the Booth Theatre. Directed by Joe Mantello, the show first ran off-Broadway at Lincoln Center's Mitzi Newhouse Theatre during the 2010-11 season. The show then transferred to Broadway and opened on November 3, 2011.
In Other Desert Cities, once-promising novelist Brooke Wyeth (Elizabeth Marvel) returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas in Palm Springs with her parents (Stockard Channing and Stacy Keach), brother (Thomas Sadoski) and aunt (Judith Light). When Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil.
Other Desert Cities earned five Tony nominations including Best Play, Best Actress in a Play (Channing), Best Featured Actress in a Play (Light), Best Scenic Design of a Play and Best Lighting Design of a Play. While Marvel originated the role of Brooke off-Broadway, Rachel Griffiths opened the show in the role on Broadway before Marvel returned earlier this year. The role of Trip Wyeth was also played by Justin Kirk and Matthew Risch during the run.
