The world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan’s comedy Medieval Play opens June 7. The Signature Theatre Company production stars Tate Donovan, Josh Hamilton and John Pankow. Helmed by Lonergan, the production will play a limited engagement through June 24 in the Irene Diamond Stage at off-Broadway’s Signature Center.
In addition to Hamilton, Donovan and Pankow, Medieval Play stars Anthony Arkin, Heather Burns, Halley Feiffer, C.J. Wilson and Kevin Geer. Set during the Great Papal Schism of 1378, Medieval Play is the story of two French mercenary knights who set out on a quest for relative moral redemption against the classic comic background of 14th century ecclesiastical politics. The play is a story of friendship, love, noble feats of arms, indiscriminate brutality and the progressive refinement of medieval table manners.
The design team for Medieval Play includes set designer Walt Spangler, costume designer Michael Krass, lighting designer Jason Lyons and sound designer David Van Tieghem.
