This year’s Tony Awards have been handed out, but we’re still thinking about the June 10 ceremony which was full of fabulous musical numbers. Broadway.com asked readers to weigh in on their favorite performance of the night and two new musicals, as well as a special number from host Neil Patrick Harris, made fans’ top three. Check out the results below!
1. Newsies – 23%
The musical may not have won the big award of the evening, but Newsies is still tops with the fans. On June 10, they showed Tony viewers that Newsies would always be the "King of New York" with their high-spirited, mega-acrobatic performance of “Seize the Day.” The number showed off Christopher Gatelli’s Tony-winning choreography and Ryan Steele’s showstopping twirling skills.
2. Once – 18%
The cast of Once delighted the audience at the Beacon Theatre with their performance of the emotionally-charged song “Gold,” led by guitar-wielding Best Actor in a Musical winner Steve Kazee. The number perfectly captured the intimacy and the magic of the eight-time Tony winning musical.
3. “What If Life Was More Like Theatre?” Opening Number – 14%
Neil Patrick Harris sure knows how to get audiences excited for an awards show. His hilarious opening number dream sequence delivered huge laughs when two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone appeared on stage pushing a lawnmower in elbow length gloves. If you haven’t seen it yet, we insist you watch it now!
