Tony winner Sutton Foster has been nominated for a 2012 Teen Choice Award for her portrayal of ballet-trained Vegas showgirl Michelle Simms on TV’s Bunheads. Beginning June 14, viewers have the opportunity to vote online for the Anything Goes alum in the Choice Breakout Star: Female category. The Teen Choice Awards will air July 22 on Fox.
Bunheads premiered June 11 on ABC Family, starring Foster as a down-on-her luck showgirl who dreams of starring on Broadway. When Michelle finds herself in Paradise, California with a new husband and disapproving mother-in-law Fanny (played by fellow Anything Goes alum Kelly Bishop), she must decide whether to begin a new life at Fanny’s dance studio or head back to Vegas.
Foster won Tony Awards for Anything Goes and Thoroughly Modern Millie, and earned additional nominations for Shrek The Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone and Little Women. Her additional Broadway credits include Young Frankenstein, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Annie, Grease and Les Misérables.
Additional Teen Choice Award nominees include Smash (Choice TV Breakout Show), Smash star Katharine McPhee (Choice TV Breakout Star: Female), New Year's Eve star Lea Michele (Choice Movie Scene Stealer: Female), Tony-winning The Avengers star Scarlett Johansson (Choice Summer Movie Star: Female) and Tony-nominated The Amazing Spider-Man lead Andrew Garfield (Choice Summer Movie Star: Male).
