The West End production of Ghost, the musical based on the the 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, will close at London’s Piccadilly Theatre on October 6, according to the U.K.'s Daily Mail. The show opened at the venue on July 19, 2011, following its spring 2011 premiere at the Manchester Opera House.
The current London cast of Ghost includes Siobhan Dillon as Molly and Mark Evans as Sam, along with original cast members Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Langtree. Original stars Caissie Levy and Richard Fleeshman are currently performing in the Broadway production of Ghost at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Walking back to their apartment one night, Sam and Molly are mugged, and Sam is murdered on a dark street. He is trapped in this world as a ghost, and unable to leave Molly, who he learns is in grave danger. With the help of a phony storefront psychic, Oda Mae Brown, Sam tries to communicate with Molly in the hope of saving and protecting her. Directed by Tony winner Matthew Warchus, Ghost features a score from Glen Ballard and The Eurthymics' Dave Stewart. Bruce Joel Rubin wrote the book which is adapted from him his Oscar-winning script.
The closing of Ghost makes way for the previously announced Spice Girls musical, Viva Forever, which will open at the Piccadilly Theatre in December.
