Tony nominee Laura Osnes is set to debut her new solo show at Cafe Carlyle on June 19. During the two-week engagement Osnes will be joined by special guest performers Jeremy Jordan (June 28), Tom Wopat (June 29) and Max Crumm (June 30). Broadway.com recently caught up with the Bonnie & Clyde and Anything Goes alum, and discovered there may be a few surprises in store at Osnes’ very first cabaret show.
“I have surprise guests coming every night and I think it will be a fun treat for the audience and for me,” Osnes said. “I love singing duets and especially getting to perform with my friends!” Osnes is extra excited to reunite with her good pal, Newsies headliner Jeremy Jordan, whom she starred with in Bonnie & Clyde. “He was the first person I asked,” Osnes said of her former leading man. “I said, ‘Jeremy, whatever night you can come, you get first pick ‘cause I want you there.’” Osnes will record a live album of the cabaret debut, and rest assured, Newsies fans—Jordan will definitely be heard on the recording, which will be released by Broadway Records.
Osnes wouldn’t reveal any specific songs she’s chosen for her cabaret debut, but the evening is sure to include jazz standards, contemporary folk songs and classics from the American Songbook. “There are two songs that are on the sexy side, which’ll be fun. And there’s one that’s funny,” she said with a laugh, adding that she’s playing against type because she’s not very funny in everyday life. Most of all, the actress is overjoyed to perform her own handpicked material. “I’m thrilled,” she said, beaming. “I finally get to sing whatever I want!”
