Gary Cole, Julianne Nicholson, two-time Tony nominee Lois Smith, Jenny Bacon and Betty Gilpin will star in the world premiere of Sam Shepard's Heartless at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Directed by Daniel Aukin, the production will begin previews August 7, with an official opening night set for August 27. The Signature Theatre Company production will play a limited engagement through September 16 at off-Broadway's Irene Diamond Stage.
Heartless is the story of Sally, who lives with her mysterious family in a cavernous home overlooking Los Angeles. When a visitor arrives, Sally’s dark secrets threaten to come into the light.
Cole’s off-Broadway credits include The Exonerated and True West. His film and TV credits include Office Space, The West Wing, Pineapple Express and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Nicholson has appeared off-Broadway in This and Stranger. Her film and TV credits include Kinsey, Storm of the Century, Boardwalk Empire and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Smith earned Tony nominations for Buried Child and The Grapes of Wrath. Her additional Broadway credits include Stages, The Iceman Cometh, Bicycle Ride to Nevada and Edwin Booth. Her film and TV credits include Twister, One Life to Live, Falling Down and True Blood. Bacon appeared off-Broadway in In the Wake. Gilpin’s off-Broadway credits include We Live Here, The Language Archive, That Face and Boys’ Life. Her film and TV credits include The Good Wife, Medium and Ghost Town.
