British stage and screen actor Paul Bigley will join the cast of London’s The 39 Steps on July 9. Adapted for the stage by Patrick Barlow and directed by Maria Aitken, The 39 Steps is currently in its sixth year at West End’s Criterion Theatre.
In addition to Bigley as Man, the production currently stars Andrew Alexander as Richard Hannay, Catherine Bailey as Pamela/Annabella/Margeret and Stephen Critchlow as Man. Adapted from the 1935 Hitchcock film thriller, The 39 Steps features a cast of four actors who reenact the characters, locations and famous scenes in the classic film using only a few props and quick costume changes. The 39 Steps premiered in London at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2005 before transferring to the West End in September 2006. The 39 Steps opened on Broadway on January 15, 2008, and played 771 performances through January 10, 2010.
Bigley’s London theater credits include The Lady in the Van, Breaking the Code, One Way Pendulum, The Madness of George Dubya and Much Ado About Nothing. His film credits include The Hour, Hustle, Vanity Fair, Shakleton, Midsomer Murders, Shakespeare in Love and Martha Meet Frank.
