Here’s something to look forward to in the dog days of summer: the August 17 second season premiere of Boss, starring Broadway vet Kelsey Grammer as the fearsome mayor of Chicago. A poster and preview photos have just been released for the Starz series, which will feature Tony nominee Jonathan Groff and theater vet Sanaa Lathan in the newly created roles of mayoral staff members Ian Todd and Mona Fredricks. Groff’s character is described as “young, smart and ambitious as hell…what he lacks in experience, he makes up for with determination and charm.” It’s a busy summer for the charming (in real life!) Groff, who is currently in rehearsal with Tony nominee Alfred Molina for the L.A. premiere of John Logan’s Red, which begins performances at the Mark Taper Forum on August 1. Tune in next month to find out why working with the mayor of Chicago in Boss is like hanging in a meat locker!
