Mark St. Germain’s long-running play Freud’s Last Session will play its final performance at off-Broadway’s New World Stages on July 22. The production, currently starring Mark H. Dold and Martin Rayner, is helmed by Tyler Marchant. Freud’s Last Session, which opened on July 22, 2010, will have played a total of 775 performances at the time of closing.
Loosely based on the book The Question of God by Dr. Armand M. Nicholi Jr., Freud’s Last Session imagines a meeting between psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud (Rayner) and author C.S. Lewis (Dold) in London. Freud and Lewis discuss their perspectives on the existence of God, love, sex and the meaning of life—only two weeks before Freud decides to end his own.
In addition to the off-Broadway production Freud’s Last Session is currently playing at Chicago’s Mercury Theatre, Sweden’s Stockholm City Theatre and the Multiteatro in Buenos Aires. Additional productions are set to open in London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Sydney, Madrid, Copenhagen and Sao Paulo.
