Newsies Headliner Jeremy Jordan & Rock of Ages Star Ashley Spencer’s Pooch Adores Fireworks, People Watching & Panties

After a two-show day, Broadway’s pet-owning performers love nothing more than coming home to their number one fan: a loyal four-legged friend. In honor of the annual Broadway Barks dog and cat adoption event, coming up on July 14 in Shubert Alley, we asked stage couples to show their puppy love by telling us all about their furry pals.

What is your pet’s name and breed?
Our pup's name is Riley, and she is a Maltipoo.

How did your pet get its name?
We both really liked the name Riley when we were thinking of names, and it stuck! When we finally got to bring her home and spend some time with her, we thought of other names, but kept coming back to Riley. She’s our little Riley Bear!

What is your pet’s favorite pastime?
She loves to sit on the windowsill to people watch and see the boats go by on the Hudson River. During the fireworks on July 4th, Riley sat and watched the entire display without a peep or any kind of movement. She enjoyed them just as much as we did!

Does your pet know any tricks?
Riley is a very smart little pooch and learned how to sit, roll over, dance and fetch very early on when we got her. All the basic tricks, but we think she’s the best! One thing we didn’t have to teach her was being the most protective little guard dog. Any unexpected noise coming from the hall right outside our apartment, and she immediately gets up and turns into a ferocious 10-pound white fluffball of a guard dog!

What’s the funniest thing your pet has done?
From the moment we got her at eight weeks old, she has had a thing for farts. No matter what she's doing, if she hears someone fart she stops dead in her tracks and stares at them, and then proceeds to try and sniff it out. We still laugh about it every time she does it!

What’s the naughtiest thing your pet has done?
Riley is a little panty thief! Anything on the floor is fair game, so when our bedroom door opens, it's a dash for any piece of dirty laundry she can snag!

Do you look like your pet?
Ashley: I think I resemble Riley more than Jeremy does, for sure!
