The musical revue Forbidden Broadway: Alive and Kicking begins previews July 24 at off-Broadway’s 47th Street Theatre. Written and directed by Forbidden Broadway creator Gerard Alessandrini and co-directed by Phillip George, the latest incarnation of the musical spoof will officially open on September 6. The show's cast includes Jenny Lee Stern, Natalie Charle Ellis, Scott Richard Foster and Marcus Steves.
Forbidden Broadway promises to spoof shows from the current Broadway season, including Newsies, Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark, Ghost, Once, Follies, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, End of the Rainbow, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Porgy and Bess and Godspell. Broadway plays won’t be spared—Forbidden Broadway will also parody Clybourne Park, End of the Rainbow, Other Desert Cities and Death of a Salesman. In addition to new shows, the production will highlight Broadway musicals from past seasons, including The Book of Mormon, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, Anything Goes and Sister Act.
Alive and Kicking is the 21st edition of Forbidden Broadway, which premiered off-Broadway in 1982. The show is scheduled to run through January 6, 2013.
