Kyle Dean Massey returns to the role of Fiyero in Broadway’s Wicked on July 31 at the Gershwin Theatre. Massey takes over the role from Richard H. Blake, who will play his final performance on July 29.
A vivid reimagining of the classic The Wizard of Oz, Wicked spotlights the untold stories of Oz’s most famous characters: the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friend, Glinda the Good. The show follows the tale of young green-skinned witch Elphaba through the life-changing events that eventually label her “wicked.” The Grammy-winning score by Stephen Schwartz features the songs “The Wizard and I,” “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”
Massey last appeared on Broadway as Fiyero in 2011, before joining the show's national tour. His other Broadway credits include Next to Normal and Xanadu. His Off-Broadway credits include Altar Boyz and Lucky Guy. During his time in Next to Normal Massey hosted his own backstage video blog for Broadway.com.
Wicked opened on October 30, 2003 and won three Tony Awards, including a trophy for Idina Menzel for Best Actress. In addition to Blake, the production currently stars Jackie Burns as Elphaba, Chandra Lee Schwartz as Glinda, Randy Danson as Madame Morrible, Adam Grupper as The Wizard, Etai BenShlomo as Boq, Jenny Fellner as Nessarose and Tom Flynn as Dr. Dillamond.
