Tony winner Nina Arianda has landed yet another plum film role, playing Italian actress Giulietta Masina, the wife of filmmaker Federico Fellini, in Fellini Black and White. Arianda, who took won a 2012 Tony Award for Venus in Fur, joins a cast that includes William H. Macy, Terrence Howard, Peter Dinklage, and Brazilian star Wagner Maura as Fellini. Henry Bromell is the film’s writer and director. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2013.
Fellini Black and White is set during Fellini and Masina’s 1958 visit to Los Angeles to attend the Academy Awards, where their film Nights of Cabiria took home the statue for Best Foreign Language Film. The two were married for 50 years, until his passing in 1993, and Masina died just months after her husband.
Arianda was also recently cast in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, opposite Broadway-bound actress Jessica Chastain, and will star as Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic Joplin. In addition to Venus in Fur, Arianda also appeared on Broadway in Born Yesterday. Her other film credits include Midnight in Paris, Tower Heist and Higher Ground.
