Casting is complete for the upcoming world premiere of Jon Kern’s comedy Modern Terrorism, or They Who Want to Kill Us and How We Learn to Love Them at off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theater. The company will feature Utkarsh Ambudkar, Steven Boyer, William Jackson Harper and Nitya Vidysagar. Peter DuBois directs the play, which will begin perviews on September 21 and open on October 15.
Modern Terrorism is described as a provocative satire about a rogue group of 21st century terrorists and their darkly comic misadventures. As a young bomber develops feelings for his beautiful, secretive conspirator, he is torn between his duty and his heart. When his hipster neighbor accidentally gets caught up in the plans, circumstances spiral out of control.
Ambudkar, whose off-Broadway credits include Animals Out of Paper, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety and Rafta Rafta, is a member of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop improv comedy troupe Freestyle Love Supreme. Boyer appeared on Broadway in I’m Not Rappaport and off-Broadway in Hand to God, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, School for Lies, The Coward and Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson, among others.
Harper was seen in Ruined at Manhattan Theatre Club, and his off-Broadway credits include The Total Bent, Titus Andronicus, Measure for Measure, Paradise Park and A Cool Dip in the Barren Sahara Crick. Vidyasagar’s theater credits include The Glorious Ones, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Love’s Labours Lost, Monetizing Emma and Serendib, and she currently plays Leela on Sesame Street.
Modern Terrorism will have scenic design by Alexander Dodge, costume design by Mimi O’Donnell, lighting design by Russell Champa, and sound design by M.L. Dogg.
