Full casting has been announced for the forthcoming West End musical adaptation of The Bodyguard, featuring previously announced stars Heather Headley and Lloyd Owen. The musical features a book by Alex Dinelaris and songs from the popular film, as well as other hits from the career of Whitney Houston, the late star of the movie. Directed by Thea Sharrack, the production will begin performances November 6 at the Adelphi Theatre. Opening night is set for December 5.
In addition to Headley and Owen, The Bodyguard will feature Debbie Kurup (Chicago) as Nicki Marron, Mark Letheren (The Country Girl) as the Stalker, Ray Shell (Vernon God Little) as Bill Devaney, Nicolas Colicos (Wonderful Town) as Tony, Mark McKerracher (Les Miserables) as Herb Farmer, Sean Chapman (Angels in America) as Sy Spector, David Page (Pippin) as Rory and Oliver Le Sueur (The Fairy Queen) as Ray Court. The cast will also include Luis Buddy, Caius Duncombe, Jaydon Fowora Knight and Kwame Kandekore. Taylor Lockhart and Malakai Paul will share the role of Fletcher. Ensemble members include Nigel Barber, Jordan Darrell, Yasmin Harrison, Shanay Holmes, Holly James, Robert Jezek, Melissa Keyes, Gil Kolirin, Janet Kumah, Nick Maude, Richard Murphy, Gloria Onitiri, Ashley J Packer, Dharmesh Patel, Lucinda Shaw, Paul Smethurst, Charlotte Watts and James Wooldridge.
Based on the 1992 film, The Bodyguard is the story of Frank Farmer (Lloyd Owen), a former secret service member who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron (Headley) from an unknown stalker. Both Farmer and Marron expect to be in charge—what they don’t expect is to fall in love. The Bodyguard will feature hit songs including “Queen of the Night,” “So Emotional,” “One Moment in Time,” “Saving All My Love,” “I’m Your Baby Tonight,” “Run to You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and more.
The Bodyguard creative team includes lighting designer Mark Henderson, sound designer Richard Brooker, set and costume designer Tim Hatley, choreographer Arthur Pita, orchestrator Chris Egan and musical supervisier Mike Dixon.
