That's a wrap for another jam-packed week on Broadway, and what have we learned? Well, the creator of Glee has joined the Twitter-verse with a bang, for one thing, and one way to get under Celia Keenan-Bolger's skin is to talk about her hot her baby brother is, for another. Read on below to find out what we’ve gleaned from this busy week on the Great White Way.
Ryan Murphy Tweets Glee-fully
We're so happy Glee creator Ryan Murphy has finally joined Twitter! He's our new fave to follow once we realized he's releasing gems like an adorable on-set photo of Glee’s Lea Michele and guest star Kate Hudson, and the actress he'd love to play Blaine (Darren Criss)’s mom: Tony and Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones. #yesplease.
Jessica Chastain Needs a Broadway Self-Esteem Boost
On the surface she’s all glamour and poise, but as she prepares to make her Broadway debut in The Heiress, Jessica Chastain is a bundle of nerves. “I haven’t been this unsure in a long time, ” the movie star said in a recent Vanity Fair article (accompanied by a very revealing photo shoot). “I have a feeling that very soon I’m going to fail very, very big.” We doubt that, Jessica! What could possibly go wrong with Matthew Crawley, er, Dan Stevens by your side?
Jenn Damiano Loves Adam Chanler-Berat’s Legs
Stage faves Adam Chanler-Berat and Jennifer Damiano kicked off our new Broadway Besties feature this week, and we learned a lot about this hilarious pair. Peter and the Starcatcher star Adam is jealous of Jenn’s natural brilliance, but Jenn is green with envy over two of Adam’s best assets: “His legs.” We'll have to take your word for it, Jenn; if only this Peter Pan wore tights! Sigh.
Lin-Manuel Miranda Tumbles in Secret
In the first episode of her new Broadway.com vlog, Bring It On’s adorable Ryann Redmond went on the hunt for some secrets about the show, and co-composer/co-lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda had a doozy. “I couldn’t write a lyric to the show until I learned to do a standing back tuck,” he said. “Now that I can do one, I can write anything.” Not to doubt you or anything, Lin, but we’ll have to see these gymnastics to believe them. Come on over; we’ll spot you.
Kristin Davis Still Gets Sex Advice
HBO smash Sex and the City is long off the air, but The Best Man’s Kristin Davis still consults her SATC co-star Cynthia Nixon on all things theater. “I always run everything by her,” Davis told Broadway.com of Nixon, who was enthusiastic about Davis' Broadway debut. “You absolutely have to do this,” she told Davis. “Don’t pause for a second. Run, run, run back to New York.” Good advice! Man, it must be handy to have a Tony winner on speed dial.
Elizabeth Ashley Knows the Secret to Staying Alive
The Best Man’s Elizabeth Ashley has lived a glamorous life in the theater, so she knows full well that fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. After making a splash on Broadway in Barefoot in the Park, she “had a full-on brain fuck and married a movie star and retired,” she recently told Broadway.com, of her marriage to the late George Peppard. “There is nothing deader in this business than a movie star’s wife.” Come on Liz, tell us what you really think.
Nina Arianda Can’t Stop Getting Cast in Movies
Don’t adjust your monitors, theater fans, that is indeed Nina Arianda’s face on another film casting story! The 2012 Tony winner for Venus in Fur has become an It Girl overnight, first landing the title role in Joplin, then a part in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and now Fellini Black and White. Well done, Nina, but don't forget about Broadway! Come back and see us again soon, ya hear?
Don’t Ask Celia Keenan-Bolger about Her Hot Brother
Just because Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies) is a bona fide Broadway hunk doesn’t mean big sister Celia wants to talk about it! On Celia’s recent episode of Side by Side by Susan Blackwell, the Peter and the Starcatcher star was quick to point out the weirdness. “People have no problem being like, ‘When’d your brother get so hot?’” she said. “And I’m like, ‘When did it seem OK to ask me that?!” Oh, probably when his abs started deserving their own billing. Sorry, Celia!
Kim and Kanye Are Way Castable
In one of our favorite photoshop projects to date, we cast celeb super-uber-megacouple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian in some Broadway shows this week, because why not? We were totally joking (duh!) but picking parts for the high-profile pair was ridiculous fun and we don't think Kim looks half bad in Elphaba green. Who's up for a “Dancing Through Life” remix?
Olympics, Shmolympics: Danell Leyva Wants an EGOT
American gymnast Danell Leyva has ticked off “go to the 2012 Olympics” on his to-do list, and now the hunky athlete has his eyes on other prizes. “I want to do musicals, acting, Broadway, everything,” Leyva said recently, and that’s not all. He wants to become an EGOT winner. Go for it, Danell! We''re sure you have a lot in common with Liza Minnelli and Whoopi Goldberg.
