Goodbye Marilyn, hello Valmont. The second season of TV’s Smash will shift its musical focus from the Marilyn Monroe-inspired musical Bombshell to Liaisons, a musical adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, according to TVLine.com. The NBC drama will also reunite Will & Grace co-stars Sean Hayes and Debra Messing. Hayes has signed on to play Terrence Falls, a comedic television and film star who is making his Broadway debut in Liaisons.
Hayes won an Emmy Award for his role as Jack McFarland on the ground-breaking NBC sitcom Will & Grace. He received a Best Actor Tony nomination for his Broadway debut in the 2010 revival of Promises, Promises and went on to host the 2010 Tony Awards. Hayes also starred in the 2008 Encores' 2008 run of Damn Yankees. His additional screen credits include The Three Stooges, Pieces of April, 30 Rock, The Bucket List and Soul Men.
Smash centers on Broadway newcomer Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) and showbiz vet Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty). The series details the process of bringing a Broadway musical to life, and features original music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The show also features Tony winner Christian Borle, Jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston and Messing, as well as season two newcomers Jeremy Jordan, Daniel Sunjata and Jennifer Hudson.
