Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer will “fill our bowls once more” as John Barrymore in the new film adaptation of William Luce’s 1997 Broadway play Barrymore. Plummer, who earned a Best Actor Tony Award for his portrayal on Broadway, recreated his performance on film at the Elgin Theater in Toronto, helmed and adapted by Erik Canuel. Winner of a special jury prize at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, the film is set for release this fall. Set in 1942, Barrymore takes up the story of the legendary actor near the end of his life, when he rents a theater in an attempt to revive his 1920 Broadway hit, Richard III.
