Tickets are now on sale for Manhattan Theatre Club’s forthcoming Broadway production of An Enemy of the People, a new version of Henrik Ibsen’s classic drama by Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Starring four-time Tony winner Boyd Gaines and Richard Thomas, An Enemy of the People begins previews September 4 at Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Directed by Doug Hughes, the play is scheduled to open September 27.
When Dr. Thomas Stockmann (Gaines) and his brother Mayor Peter Stockmann (Thomas) discover toxic contamination in the water used at the local baths, they expect to be hailed as heroes. However because the baths are the town’s primary source of revenue, the community fights to silence them. In An Enemy of the People, the brothers learn that there are forces more powerful than the truth.
In addition to Gaines and Thomas, the cast includes Maite Alina as Petra Stockmann, Gerry Bamman as Aslaksen, Kathleen McNenny as Catherine Stockmann, Randall Newsome as Horster, John Mrocaccino as Hovstad, Michael Siberry as Morton Kiil and James Waterston as Billing.
The creative team for An Enemy of the People includes scenic designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Ben Stanton, sound designer David Van Tieghem, fight director J. David Brimmer and hair and wig designer Tom Watson.
