Gary Cole, Julianne Nicholson, Lois Smith and more are bringing the mysterious western world of Sam Shepard’s Heartless to life off-Broadway at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Set in a cavernous home overlooking Los Angeles, Heartless is the story of Roscoe (Cole), a professor who comes to visit his friend Sally (Nicholson) and her family. Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson headed to the Irene Diamond Stage to watch the family drama unfold, then sketched a dreamy portrait of Heartless stars (from top) Jenny Bacon as Lucy, Nicholson as Sally, Smith as Mable, Betty Gilpin as Elizabeth and Cole as Roscoe. Check out Squigs’ take on this chilling tale, then see the world premiere of Heartless, scheduled to play a limited engagement through September 30.
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
