The Eugene O’Neill Theatre stage is flooded with happy, dancing, singing Mormons, but Clark Johnsen is the one Book of Mormon cast member who has true Mormon street credit. Johnsen, who was raised Mormon, sat down with Brian Williams on Rock Center to discuss the blockbuster musical and recount his own real-life Mormon mission to Mexico at the age of 19. Johnsen also dove into his emotional decision to leave the Mormon church, and how his own experiences with the religion have helped shaped his performance. For more on Johnsen's days as a Mormon, take a look back at his Broadway.com First Person essay from the early days of Mormon's Broadway run. Check out Johnsen's interview below, then be sure to catch him live in The Book of Mormon.
