The Tony-nominated revival of The Best Man has recouped its initial Broadway investment during the week of August 26. Directed by Michael Wilson, the limited engagement is set to run through September 9 at the Schoenfeld Theatre.
The drama currently stars John Larroquette, John Stamos, Kristin Davis, Cybill Shepherd, Elizabeth Ashley, Mark Blum and James Earl Jones, who earned a Tony nomination for his performance. When the show's run began in March, the cast featured Angela Lansbury, Eric McCormack, Candice Bergen, Michael McKean and Kerry Butler. The cast also includes Curtis Billings, Corey Brill, Tony Carlin, Donna Hanover, Sherman Howard, Olja Hrustic, Bill Kux, James Leccense, Dakin Matthews, Angelica Page, Fred Parker Jr. and Amy Tribbey.
Set at the Naational Convention, The Best Man follows two candidates who are vying for their party’s presidential nomination during the primary season. The show is an inside look at the dirt-digging, double-dealing, triple-crossing chicanery of presidential electioneering.
The production recouped its investment just as the Republican National Convention was being held in Tampa Bay, FL.
