Broadway comedian Jackie Hoffman will join fellow Broadway vets Justin Bartha, Andrew Rannells and Ellen Barkin on TV's The New Normal, according to TVGuide.com. Hoffman will play the reccuring role of Frances, Bartha’s “sometimes smothering mom,” who doesn’t always get along with her son-in-law (Rannells). Hoffman’s character will make her first appearance on the fifth episode of the series.
Co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler, The New Normal follows a gay couple (Bartha and Rannells) as they hire a surrogate to have their baby.
Hoffman starred in the Broadway productions of The Addams Family, Xanadu and Hairspray. Off-Broadway she has been seen in Jackie Hoffman’s A Chanukah Charol, Regrets Only, Pride & Joy, Book of Liz, Straightjacket, Incident at Cobbler’s Knob and One Woman Shoe. Her TV credits include 30 Rock, One Life to Live, Strangers with Candy and Curb Your Enthusiasm. During her time in The Addams Family, Hoffman served as a video blogger for Broadway.com.
The New Normal airs on NBC beginning September 11.
