Kathie Lee Gifford will host the 20th edition of Broadway on Broadway, the annual free outdoor concert in Times Square. The concert takes place September 9 at 11:30 AM. Celebrating the start of the 2012-2013 theater season, the show will feature star performances from new musicals as well as long-running favorites. Participating musicals will be announced at a later date.
“I am so honored and thrilled to host this year’s Broadway on Broadway concert,” Gifford said in a statement. “Over the past 20 years, Broadway on Broadway has become one of the most exciting and highly-anticipated events of the season, with amazing performances from the best that Broadway has to offer. And I’m looking forward to kicking off a brand new theater season on September 9 with thousands of Broadway fans in Times Square!”
Gifford made her Broadway debut acting in the Stephen Sondheim musical Putting It Together in 2000. This year she serves as the book writer and lyricist of the new musical Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson, starring Carolee Carmello. Scandalous begins performances at the Neil Simon Theatre on October 13. Gifford is best known for her 15 years on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee (for which she received 11 Emmy nominations), and is currently the three-time Emmy Award-winning co-host of the fourth hour of The Today Show.
Broadway on Broadway is produced by the Broadway League and the Times Square Alliance.
