Film star Sigourney Weaver looks thrilled at the prospect of collaborating with her Yale School of Drama classmate Christopher Durang on Lincoln Center Theater's premiere of the playwright's new comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. The two became fast friends in grad school, and Weaver went on to star in four of Durang’s plays: Beyond Therapy, Das Lusitania Songspiel (pictured above, in 1980!), Titanic and Sex and Longing. The color photo above was tweeted by LCT to mark the start of rehearsals for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, in which Durang transports characters and themes from Chekhov's work to present day Bucks County, Pennsylvania; Weaver will play Masha, a jet-setting movie star. It warms the heart to know that, despite their individual successes, the two have remained close for almost four decades! Congrats to Ms. Weaver and Mr. Durang, and get set to enjoy their latest collaboration, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, beginning October 25 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.
