The film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages will be released on DVD October 9. Directed by Adam Shankman, the Rock of Ages film stars Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti and Diego Boneta. The movie originally opened in theaters June 15.
Based on the jukebox musical of the same name, Rock of Ages is the story of Drew (Boneta), an aspiring rock musician who works as a bartender in the legendary Bourbon Room in Los Angeles. When he meets Sherrie (Hough), a small-town girl who moves to Hollywood to pursue her dreams of being an actress, the two have an undeniable connection, but the wild world of rock-and-roll—and a rock god named Stacee Jaxx (Cruise)—tear them apart.
Rock of Ages originally opened on Broadway on April 7, 2009 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre before transferring to its current home at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Featuring a book by Chris D’Arienzo and a score of classic ‘80s rock songs, Rock of Ages features hits including “We Built This City,” “Waiting For a Girl Like You” and “Don’t Stop Believin’.” The production currently stars Justin Matthew Sargent as Drew, Ashley Spencer as Sherrie and Jeremy Woodard as Stacee Jaxx.
