An Australian staging of Lincoln Center Theater’s Tony-winning production of South Pacific will be released on DVD, according to AussieTheatre.com. Directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, the Australian run stars Lisa McCune as Nellie Forbush, Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Emile de Becque, Kate Ceberano as Bloody Mary and Eddie Perfect as Luther Billis. South Pacific plays Australia’s Sydney Opera House through September 9, before transferring to Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on September 13. No release date has been announced for the DVD.
The story of an unexpected romance between a U.S. nurse and a French plantation owner on a South Pacific island during WWII, South Pacific features beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein songs such as "Some Enchanted Evening," "Bali Ha'i," "A Wonderful Guy" and “There Is Nothing Like a Dame.”
Sher’s revival of South Pacific opened at Broadway's Vivian Beaumont Theatre on April 3, 2008 and closed July 10, 2010. The Lincoln Center Theater production, which originally starred Paulo Szot and Kelli O’Hara, won eight Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Actor in a Musical.
