Oliver Tompsett and Rachael Wooding will step into the West End’s We Will Rock You on October 8 at the Dominion Theatre. Tompsett will play Galileo, taking over for outgoing star Noel Sullivan. Wooding will join the cast as Scaramouche, replacing Lauren Samuels. Both will remain with the show through 2013.
After 10 years and almost 4,000 performances, We Will Rock You continues to rock London. With music and lyrics by Queen and a book and direction by Ben Elton, We Will Rock You is a jukebox musical about a young rebel named Galileo who tries to overtake a powerful corporation in a futuristic world. The London production originally opened on May 12, 2002, and features hit Queen songs including “We Are the Champions,” “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Somebody To Love.”
Tompsett currently stars as Drew (the role he originated) in the West End staging of another ‘80s rock musical, Rock of Ages. Wooding returns to We Will Rock You after five years, having previously played the role of Meat in the show in 2006. She made her West End debut in Fame and quickly rose to stardom in the London theatre scene, tackling roles in Saturday Night Fever, Hairspray and Jersey Boys. She most recently played the title role in the U.K. tour of Evita.
We Will Rock You also currently stars Kevin Kennedy, Brenda Edwards, Rachel John, Wayne Robinson and Alasdair Harvey.
