Tony nominee Craig Bierko will co-star with Oscar winner Estelle Parsons in La MaMa’s previously announced production of Marco Calvani’s Things of This World. Calvani’s one-act play will run alongside Neil LaBute’s new one-act play Lovely Head, starring Larry Pine and Gia Crovatin, as part of La MaMa’s Author Directing Author Program, in which each playwright directs the other's work. The two one-act plays will be performed on the same program beginning on September 28. The off-Broadway show will play a limited engagement through October 14 at La MaMa’s Ellen Stewart Theatre.
Things of This World concerns a woman (Parsons) and her put-upon butler (Bierko) as a dinner for guests is prepared. Amidst commands, regrets, little cruelties and a lack of tenderness, their frayed relationship and bankrupt existences are revealed. Lovely Head tells the story of the bizarre, obsessive love of a man (Pine) for a girl (Crovatin).
Bierko received a Tony nomination for his portrayal of Professor Harold Hill in the most recent Broadway revival of The Music Man. He appeared in LaBute’s plays Filthy Talk For Troubled Times and Standing on Ceremony, as well as Guys and Dolls, Company, Modern Orthodox and Thou Shalt Not. His screen credits include Sex and the City, Damages, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Cinderella Man.
