Tony winner Audra McDonald will be among the guest stars appearing in Elmo the Musical, a new segment featured on Sesame Street, according to The New York Times. The new segment will debut on the show's September 24 season premiere and be featured sporadically throughout the season, replacing the long-running Elmo's World segment that concluded each episode.
McDonald currently stars in Broadway's Porgy and Bess, for which she earned her fifth Tony Award. She also received trophies for Carousel, A Raisin in the Sun, Master Class and Ragtime. She has also earned nominations for 110 in the Shade and Marie Christine.
The upcoming Sesame Street season will also feature appearances by Tony winner David Hyde Pierce, two-time Tony nominee Amy Ryan, Broadway veterans Kristen Bell and Mario Lopez, as well as Halle Berry, Don Cheadle, Steve Carell, Zac Efron, Casey Affleck, Paula Patton, Melissa McCarthy, Jon Hamm, Eric Stonestreet, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Timothy Olyphant, Maya Rudolph, Ed Helms, Dax Shepard, Blake Griffin, Matt Kemp, Wendy Williams, Colbie Caillat, rock band Train, Common and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
