The Atlantic Theater Company kicks off its 2012-13 season with the New York premiere of Simon Stephens’ Harper Regan on September 20. Directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch and starring Mary McCann in the title role, the play officially opens off-Broadway on October 10, and will run through October 28 at Atlantic’s Linda Gross Theater.
In addition to McCann, Harper Regan will star Mary Beth Peil, Gareth Saxe, Christopher Innvar, Vandit Blatt, Jordan Lage, Madeleine Martin, John Sharian, Peter Scanavino, Mahira Kakkar and Stephen Tyrone Williams.
Harper Regan centers on the title character (McCann), who decides to walk away from her husband (Saxe), her daughter (Martin) and her home one strange evening. She tells no one where she’s going or whether she’s ever coming back, tossing family, history and fate straight up in the air. The play premiered in 2008 at the U.K.’s National Theatre, starring Lesley Sharp.
