Tickets are now on sale for Classic Stage Company's production of Ivanov, starring Ethan Hawke and Joely Richardson. Directed by Austin Pendleton, Ivanov begins previews at the off-Broadway venue on October 17 and opens on November 4. The show will play a limited engagement through November 25.
Written by Russian playwright Anton Chekhov in 1887, Ivanov follows a bureaucratic official (Hawke) who loses his zest for life as he deals with his increasingly complicated surroundings, including a suffering wife (Richardson), rising debt and turbulent relationships with the people around him. The play co-stars Glenn Fitzgerald, Roberta Maxwell, George Morfogen, Juliet Rylance, Jonathan Marc Sherman and Louis Zorich.
Ivanov is presented at CSC as part of the company’s Chekhov Cycle, which includes past productions of Uncle Vanya and Three Sisters. The production is translated by Carol Rocamora and features scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Marco Piemontese, lighting by Keith Parham and original music and sound by Ryan Rumery.
