Tickets are now on sale for the off-Broadway revival of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Piano Lesson at the Pershing Square Signature Center. Starring Tony winner Chuck Cooper, Eric Lenox Abrams and Brandon J. Dirden, The Piano Lesson will begin performances October 30, with an official opening night set for November 18. Directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, The Piano Lesson is scheduled to play a limited engagement through December 9 at the Irene Diamond Stage.
The Piano Lesson stars Cooper as Wining Boy, Abrams as Avery, Dirden as Boy Willie, Alexis Holt as Maretha, Jason Dirden as Lymon, Mandi Masden as Grace, Roslyn Ruff as Berniece and James A. Williams as Doaker. Set in 1936 in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, The Piano Lesson is the story of the Charles family as they battle their surroundings and each other over their shared legacy—an antique piano.
The production includes scenic design by Michael Carnahan, costume design by Karen Perry, lighting design by Rui Rita, sound design by David Van Tieghem, Jr., fight direction by J. David Brimmer, hair and wig design by Valerie Gladstone and piano sculpting by Vinnie Bagwell. The Piano Lesson will feature original music by Bill Sims.
