From New York couture to McKinkley High senior elections, Glee’s September 27 episode, entitled “Makeover,” had something for everybody. In this razzle-dazzle episode, Will Schuester decides to take a break from McKinley High, Blaine and Kurt learn firsthand the trouble with long distance relationships, Isabelle Wright gives Rachel (and the whole show) a fresh and sophisticated makeover, and Rachel and Brody make out (!) only to be interrupted by Finn. What worked, what didn’t? Here’s how “Makeover” scored on Broadway.com’s Glee Report Card.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Isabelle Wright (Sarah Jessica Parker): “Rumor has it, she gave Steve Jobs his first black turtleneck.”
TARDY
Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith): Finn surprised former fiancée Rachel, only to find her making out with Brody. Yikes!
Becky Jackson (Lauren Potter): We adored Becky and Sue’s nod to the movie-musical Grease during the election announcement.
HONOR ROLL
Best Number: Isabelle, Kurt and Rachel singing “The Way You Look Tonight/You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” The costumes, the tap break, the arrangement. Perfection!
Best Line: “Unexpected leather should be in the back pages of The Village Voice.” —Kurt, squashing Isabelle Wright’s leather trend
Most Involved: In addition to being a memeber of the Sewing Club, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons Club and the Superhero Sidekicks Appreciation Club, Blaine is also now senior class president.
Scene with the Most Heart: Blaine and Sam’s heart-to-heart during their victory party at Breadsticks. Runner-up: Brody and Rachel’s ice-cream montage made us melt.
Relationship of the Week: Isabelle and Kurt. She truly is his fairy godmother in couture. Only problem, does she come at the expense of Klaine?
Star of the Episode: Sarah Jessica Parker as Isabelle Wright. Isabelle Wright is everything we love about SJP: the fab life and wardrobe of Carrie Bradshaw, SJP’s own sweet demeanor and her Broadway style singing voice. Keep her coming, Glee!
ENGLISH CLASS
“When I was eight years old, I got my first love letter from a guy named Tony, and he was very cute. And when he gave it to me, I corrected all the grammatical errors and spelling errors and then I gave it back to him.” —Rachel’s secret confession to Brody
LANGUAGE STUDIES
We need help translating here. Brody says, “I’m hands off; just friends,” but that really translates to making out on the floor of her apartment?
HISTORY CLASS
“Franklin Roosevelt was part robot too and he’s on Mount Rushmore.” —Brittany explaining why Artie should be her vice president
SCIENCE CLASS
“Bedbugs prefer to lay their eggs in couture.” - Isabelle Wright on why she doesn’t go to movie theaters.
