It’s time to put that silly old saying about nice guys finishing last to rest! The ads for Universal’s Pitch Perfect highlight the lovely and talented ladies who make up The Bellas, an all-girls a cappella group at Barden University, who are trying to outdo the school's reigning male a cappella group, The Treble Makers. It’s established early in the film that The Bellas are our stars and The Treble Makers are the teasing scoundrels. However, Skylar Astin, who plays doesn’t-know-how-hot-he-really-is movie geek Jesse, and Ben Platt as human teddy bear and aspiring magician Benji, just about steal the show from the bodacious Bellas. Broadway fans remember Astin as Georg (who lusted after his busty piano teacher) in the original cast of Spring Awakening, but in Pitch Perfect, Astin’s Jesse is the boyfriend all of us want. He can sing, he can dance and he tries to woo Anna Kendrick's Beca with Capri Sun, pretzels and The Breakfast Club. Newcomer Platt’s Benji isn’t nearly as smooth with the moves, but he has a heart of gold and a truly “magic” moment near the end of the film that will have you snapping at him. These boys are the class acts of Barden U! Be sure to check out Pitch Perfect in theaters on Friday, October 5.
