The new musical Hands on a Hardbody wasted no time in securing the Brooks Atkinson Theatre after the recent closing notice posted by Peter and the Starcatcher. The upcoming show, which will star Hunter Foster, Jay Armstrong Johnson and the entire cast from last year's La Jolla Playhouse production, will begin performances on February 23, 2013. Opening night is set for March 21.
The cast will also include Keith Carradine, Allison Case, David Larsen, Jacob Ming-Trent, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Mary Gordon Murray, Jim Newman, Connie Ray, Jon Rua, Keala Settle, Dale Soules, Scott Wakefield and William Youmans.
Based on the 1997 documentary film of the same name, Hands on a Hardbody tells the story of ten hard-luck Texans participating in a contest to win a brand new truck.
The musical features a book by Doug Wright, music by Phish’s Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green, lyrics by Green, direction by Neil Pepe and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo. The production will include scenic design by Christine Jones, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kevin Adams, sound design by Steve Canyon Kennedy and vocal arrangements/musical direction by Carmel Dean.
