The "Hard Knock Life" has officially begun for the orphans of Annie as the musical returns to Broadway on October 3. Directed by James Lapine, the production stars Lilla Crawford as Annie, Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks and two-time Tony winner Katie Finneran as Miss Hannigan. Opening night is set for November 8 at the Palace Theatre.
Inspired by the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, Annie first opened on Broadway on April 21, 1977. The musical played 2,377 performances before closing on January 2, 1983. The show, which follows a young Depression era orphan and the rich and famous Daddy Warbucks, features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan.
In addition to Crawford, Warlow and Finneran, the revival stars Brynn O’Malley as Grace Farrell, Clarke Thorell as Rooster Hannigan, J. Elaine Marcos as Lily St. Regis and Sunny the dog as Sandy, plus Tyrah Skye Odoms, Georgi James, Madi Rae DiPietro, Emily Rosenfeld, Junah Jang, Taylor Richardson and Jaidyn Young as the orphans.
