Mimi may meet Marilyn as the Feline of Avenue B is making her way to Smash! Rent and A Streetcar Named Desire actress Daphne Rubin-Vega is the latest stage star to join the growing line-up of Broadway veterans in the second season of NBC’s theater dramedy Smash, Broadway.com has confirmed (EW.com first reported the news).
Rubin-Vega will play a Broadway publicist for a yet to be determined number of episodes (Broadway.com will now look to Daphne from here on out for all Smash related news!) Though Rubin-Vega's former Rent co-star Jesse L. Martin also recently joined the show as a potential love interest for Debra Messing, unfortunately there are no plans for the duo to sing together.
Rubin-Vega earned a Tony nomination for Rent and Anna in the Tropics. She has also appeared on Broadway in Les Miserables and The Rocky Horror Show. Her film credits include Jack Goes Boating and Flawless.
Smash returns to NBC's midseason schedule in early 2013. The DVD of the show's first season will be available in stores on January 8, 2013.
