Disgraced, a new drama by Ayad Akhtar, begins performances October 7 at Lincoln Center’s Claire Tow Theatre. The off-Broadwy play is directed by Kimberly Senior and stars Daily Show correspondent and Broadway alum Aasif Mandvi. Disgraced’s opening night is set for October 22, and the production will play a limited run through November 18.
Mandvi stars as Amir Kapoor, a rising Pakistani-American lawyer married to a white artist (Heidi Armbruster). The couple hosts a dinner party, where friendly conversation escalates into discussion of race, and Amir must face his own cultural roots and loss of identity. The production also features actors Adam Dannheisser, Omar Maskati and Karen Pittman.
Disgraced features a set by Lauren Helpern, lighting by Tyler Micoleau and costumes by Dane Laffrey.
