Paul Dano was offered a role in the forthcoming Jersey Boys film, but the Broadway vet won’t be crooning “Sherry” on the big screen anytime soon, according to Deadline.com. The good news? Dano passed in favor of another role, starring opposite Les Miserables’ Hugh Jackman and If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet hunk Jake Gyllenhaal in the new film Prisoners. There is no word at this time on which part Dano would have played in Jersey Boys, or if other actors have been approached for the film.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Aaron Guzikowski, Prisoners is the story of a carpenter (Jackman) in a small town who clashes with hot-shot Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) after his young daughter and her best friend are kidnapped. Frustrated by police efforts, the carpenter takes the case into his own hands. The Warner Brothers film is eying a fall 2013 release date.
Dano has appeared on Broadway in A Free Man of Color, Inherit the Wind and A Month in the Country. His film and TV credits include Little Miss Sunshine, There Will Be Blood, The Girl Next Door, Cowboys & Aliens, Looper, Ruby Sparks, Being Flynn and Where the Wild Things Are.
