The Velveteen Rabbit is hopping its way to off-Broadway’s DR2 Theatre! Kristin Parker, Jim Stanek and John Curcuru complete the cast of the new play based on the beloved children’s book. Written and directed by Kevin Del Aguila, The Velveteen Rabbit begins performances November 16, with an official opening night set for November 18. The production will play a limited engagement through January 27, 2013.
Based on the classic picture book by Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit is the story of a stuffed rabbit who longs to become real. With a little bit of nursery magic, three actors and a few props transform into a wise, old rocking horse, a cavalcade of mechanical playthings, a kind-hearted fairy and of course, a stuffed rabbit who is transformed thanks to the love of a young boy. The new play is recommended for children age four through eight.
Parker appeared off-Broadway in Pinkalicious the Musical and on tour in A Christmas Carol. Stanek’s Broadway credits include The Story of My Life, Lestat, Little Women, The Rivals, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Indiscretions. His off-Broadway credits include A Tree Grows in Brookklyn, Night Sky, Frankenstein, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris. Curcuru starred in the national touring production of The Velveteen Rabbit. He appeared off-Broadway in Captain Marbles and His Acting Squad.
