NBC won’t be saying goodbye to the kooky Munster family after all, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The network, which has been developing Mockingbird Lane, a reboot of the classic sitcom The Munsters for two years, will air the new pilot (which cost $10 million to produce) as a Halloween special. As previously reported, the network will no longer pick up the pilot for a full series. Created by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies), Mockingbird Lane is scheduled to air October 26.
Mockingbird Lane stars Seminar alum Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as Lily, Tony nominee Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and Mason Cook as Eddie. The pilot also features The Performers star Cheyenne Jackson as Eddie’s perky Scout Master, who falls head over heels for Lily.
Mockingbird Lane is an edgier, darker take on the classic ‘60s sitcom, which starred Fred Gwynne as Fred and Yvonne De Carlo as Lily. The new special will explore the early life of Herman (O’Connell) and Lily (de Rossi) and how they ended up together at the house on 1313 Mockingbird Lane.
